Class Descriptions

Ballet/Jazz/Acro Age 2 1/2 -3 -  Designed for our youngest  dancers.  Our curriculum will develop coordination and large motor skills while increasing musical, spatial awareness. & basic dance skills of ballet/ jazz & acro.  An emphasis is placed on listening skills, creativity, body shapes, imagination, and classroom etiquette. Stretching on the floor is explored and coordination skills are developed through movements across the floor. Tip toe walks and runs, marches, slides, gallops and basic acro are used to encourage coordination and introduce musicality.  Attire:   Each new dancer receives a skirted leotard as our gift,  pink ballet shoes will be needed, tap shoes if enrolled in tap.  

Ballet/Jazz/Tap Age 4 -  Designed for our younger dancers. Our 45 minute ballet and tap curriculum will develop coordination and large motor skills in a positive and encouraging environment. An emphasis is placed on dance placement, rhythm exploration, creativity, body shapes, imagination, and classroom etiquette. Tip toe walks and runs, marches, chasses and gallops are used to encourage coordination and introduce musicality. A foundation in Ballet and Tap Terminology is emphasized from the very
beginning. Attire: Each new dancer receives a skirted leotard as our gift,   pink ballet shoes will be needed with pink tights and tan tap shoes if enrolled in tap.    

Ballet/Jazz age 5/6 Level I -  Designed as our introductory 60 minute combination level technique class. This class offers the dancer a foundation in Ballet and Jazz dance skills and technique. An emphasis on proper terminology will be introduced and explored through center floor, across the floor and creative combinations and phrases of movement designed for each class. Attire: Black or lavender leotard with pink tights. Pink ballet shoes.

Jazz/Tap age 5/6 Level I - Designed as our introductory 60 minute combination level technique class. This class offers the dancer a foundation in Ballet and Tap dance skills and technique. An emphasis on proper terminology will be introduced and explored through center floor, across the floor, and creative combinations and phrases of movement designed for each class. Attire: Black or lavender leotard with pink tights. Pink ballet shoes and Tan tap shoes.

Jazz/Tap age 7/8 Level II -  Designed as our intermediate 60 minute combination level technique class. This class continues to explore the placement and terminology of Jazz and Tap technique. Jazz floor work, across the floor combinations and phrases of choreography will develop students ability to learn a variety of styles such as classic jazz, hip-hop, broadway styles, and contemporary. Tap floor work and composition will emphasize quality and clarity of sounds and focus on musicality and rhythm phrasing. Attire: Leotard- any color, tights, jazz pants, boy shorts and close fitting tops are acceptable. Black jazz shoes, bare feet or dance paws. Tan tap shoes.

Jazz/Hip-Hop age 9-12 Level III - Designed as our advanced level in the children’s development program. This 60 minute jazz/ hip-hop class focuses on placement with faster, stronger and more progressive combinations. Warm-up preparation focuses on isolations, contractions, conditioning, flexibility and toning the body. Attire: Leotard- any color, tights, jazz pants, boy shorts and close fitting tops are acceptable. Black jazz shoes, bare feet or dance paws.

Tap age 9-12 Level III -  Designed as our advanced level in our children’s development program. A 45 minute comprehensive Tap class will emphasize quality and clarity of sounds. Class includes warm-up, across the floor and combinations featuring tap terminology. Timing , turning and choreographic styles are explored as well as performance quality. Attire: Leotard and tights - any color. jazz pants, leggings, boy shorts, skirts and close fitting tops are acceptable. Black oxford tap shoe.

Tap IV - Designed to develop and increase tap skills in a quicker pace. Tap vocabulary is increased and students will explore syncopated rhythmic patterns and choreographic design. This 45 minute class will cover musicality, coordination, cardio endurance, and performance quality. Execution of time steps, turns, paradiddles and pull backs will be emphasized in this class. Attire: Black oxford tap shoes, movable and comfortable clothing.

Tap V -  Designed to develop and increase tap skills at a challenging pace. Intricate footwork and syncopated rhythms are evaluated and precision and clarity are emphasized. Students will be split into intermediate and advanced levels within the class. Turning, jumps, leaps, pull backs and pick up combinations will be explored. Cardio endurance, coordination, musicality and performance quality and various tap styles will be addressed. Students will explore individual choreography exercises within the class to increase skill level.

Ballet, Levels II - V – Ballet is the foundation of all dance and the most important discipline of all dance forms to establish a proficient technical dancer.  Our curriculum focuses on the movement vocabulary, discipline and foundation of classical ballet technique.  This class will consist of structured barre exercises to learn rhythm, posture, alignment and balance. Center work includes adagio, petite allegro, across the floor, and grande allegro.  Students will learn to jump, turn and leap with emphasis on strength and control.  As our dancers progress the studio will offer various levels.  Dancers who have a strong ballet education will be versatile in all dance forms and styles.   Students are highly encouraged to study it first or along with other dance forms.  Attire:  ballet shoes, hair in bun, ABT level color leotard or black leotard and pink tights are preferred. 

Jazz Styles V  -  Jazz Styles including theater & modern works of Cole, Robbins, Fosse, Dunham & Giordano will be coverd.  Jazz  styles are entertaining, faster and stronger forms of movement whose technique incorporates various turns, jumps and leaps perfected through progressions across the floor and dance combinations.  These give a dancer a variety of skills that can be utilized through the more powerful and visual choreography of many jazz and broadway styles.  Attire:  black jazz shoes, bare feet or dance paws, solid color leotard and tights.  Boy shorts and close fitting tops are acceptable.

Jazz, Levels II - V – This class is a stylized and technical form of dance that requires a ballet foundation.  Jazz is a faster, stronger form of movement whose technique incorporates various turns, jumps and leaps perfected through progressions across the floor and dance combinations.  These give a dancer a variety of skills that can be utilized through the more powerful choreography of many jazz styles.  Warm up preparation focuses on isolation, contractions, stretching, flexibility, conditioning and toning of the body.  Attire:  black jazz shoes, bare feet or dance paws, solid color leotard and tights. Boy shorts and close-fitting tops are acceptable.

Theater Jazz - In theatre, a song or dance occurs when a character can no longer express themselves in words using dance to add another dimension to the character.  This class will study a variety of musicals through challenging choreography studying proper technique in all genres, students learn repertory from past and current Broadway shows. Attire:  black jazz shoes, bare feet or dance paws, solid color leotard and tights. Boy shorts and close-fitting tops are acceptable.  

Hip-Hop  –  This is a structured form of street dance.  It is designed to teach coordination, strength, quickness, agility and endurance.  This class is a fun and high-energy form of dance that requires no formal training.  Attire:  baggy clothes and non-marking sneakers are permitted for this class only.

Lyrical  –  This style of dance is a fluid combination of ballet and jazz technique.  It is more expressive in nature, relating to the spirit, nature, joy and freedom of the individual dancer. Lyrical dance uses movement to interpret the music and expresses emotion.  Attire:  bare feet or dance paws, solid color leotard and tights. Boy shorts and close-fitting tops are acceptable.

Pre-Pointe -  Students above age 11 can begin this level of ballet in preparation to go en pointe.  Our curriculum focuses on strengthening exercises at the barre, balance, further developing the point of the foot, proper posture, knowledge of ballet terms and correct execution of steps.  Advancement will be determined by commitment, level of maturity, strength and stamina.   Attire:  ballet attire with pink ballet shoes or demi-pointe shoes.

Pointe – This class is by instructor recommendation only, available to serious students above age 12 who have studied technical ballet for three or more years.   Students must be enrolled in 3 or more ballet classes per week.  The bones of the student’s feet should be sufficiently ossified to prevent serious injury. The effort exerted to remain En Pointe  requires the dancer to use the entire body for support, including the legs, back and abdominal muscles.  As the dancer becomes stronger at the barre, usually after six months or has a completed year of pre-pointe they can begin center work.   Attire:  ballet attire with Pointe shoes.

Choreography Combos -   Fast paced learning of intermediate/advanced choreography in different styles of dance weekly/monthly.

Competition Technique -   This competition technique is for the Intermediate Advanced dancer who needs to work on turns, leaps, footwork, placement, timing or performance skills.

Dance Team Training -  Designed to offer each individual the knowledge, technique and confidence needed to prepare for dance team auditions in college and high school programs.  We will improve your flexibility, teach proper high kick technique, work on progressions, stamina, precision dance skills and offer mock tryouts.

Stretch & Strengthen – This is a conditioning class designed to improve dancer’s flexibility and strength, refining their dance technique.  As you strengthen the body’s core (abdominal and back muscles) you improve coordination, balance, tension release and alignment.  Optimizing flexibility can result in more lift without tension, deeper pliés, higher jumps with less effort, tighter turns, and improved extension and turnout.  Innovative, proven techniques will help you execute key dance skills better as you:  strengthen the muscles with resistance bands, improve your balance with small balls and increase your flexibility through touch, movement awareness, and imagery. Attire:  bare feet, solid color leotard and tights. Boy shorts and close-fitting tops are acceptable.

Turn and Leaps - This class will focus on the progression and correct technical execution of pirouettes and jete's done through Ballet and Jazz Curriculum.

Acting, Voice, Theory, Kinesiology and Music Workshops - To offer students a comprehensive education in the Performing Arts we offer private lessons & workshops with the opportunity for students to continue with lessons as they are interested.  

Dance Tumbling - Add tumbling skills to your choreography like ariels, walkovers, handsprings, chin stands, hip-hop stunts and illusions. We are next door to & affiliated with Cheer Elite Training Center and Ohio Valley Allstars who offer award - winning tumbling and cheer instruction within the same facility. Many of our dancers conveniently and safely add tumbling to their schedule with Certified Gymnastic Instructors, the safety of a 40' Tumble Trak, 12'x12' In-ground Foam Pit, 8'x12' In-ground Resi Pit, 3 - 54'x42' Spring and Foam Floors available.  You can register for these classes @ www.ohiovalleyallstars.com
